Our Team

Alicia is a parent who has been involved in Love Our Children for two years. She has served as Secretary and has participated in our events and is a spokesperson, along with her son, at Board of Education meetings.

Veronica as 34 years of experience in the New Hanover County Schools. She has worked with PreK-12th grade students and teachers as an educator, Assistant Principal, Principal, county-wide Observer/Evaluator, and Special Assistant to the Superintendent for Eliminating the Achievement Gap. Her credentials include earning her BA in Social Studies for UNCW (1972) and her MS in Education and Supervision Certificate from UNCW (1988). Ms. Brown has served on the Boards of the Arts Council of the Lower Cape Fear, Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, and the First Tee of Greater Wilmington. Currently, she is President of Love Our Children NC.

Peter retired in 2019 after 42 years of teaching in public schools. He taught 1st grade in upstate New York for 38 years. He has a BS in Education from Wheelock College in Early Childhood (1977) and and MS in Education form Lesley College in the Integrated Arts in Education (1981). He is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Childhood (2013). He is active as a member of the Social Justice Ministry of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Wilmington and a founding member of NHC Educational Justice. He is a valued contributor to Love Our Children NC and to the education community in North Carolina.

Loretta serves as our Treasurer. She has served as an officer and volunteer for a number of community organizations. Professionally, she is a certified math teacher and an accountant.

Barbara is a parent, grandparent and great grandparent. She raised her son and two others as a step mom since they were early teens. While not an educator, she is a firm believer that education is one of the most important gifts we give our children, and that good schools are a legacy for the community and the future. Her education includes a BA in Political Science from Antioch College (Ohio, 1968) and a MS in Planning from the University of TN, Knoxville, 1975. She worked in the private, governmental, and nonprofit sectors prior to her retirement in 2020.
